I grew up with a version of these called matchsticks, where they were puff pastry filled with jam, cream, then topped with pink icing. These are my Christmas version and honestly brought back so much nostalgia and joy

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry, partially thawed

  • 1 TBS milk of choice

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 1/2 cup chocolate-hazelnut spread

  • 1 cup thickened cream

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla essence

  • 250 grams strawberries, sliced

  • 1/4 cup icing sugar

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 220°C/200°C fan-forced. Line 2 baking trays with baking paper.
  • Using your favourite big christmas cookie cutter, cut an even amount of shapes from each pastry sheet (or alternatively chop each sheet into 9 squares). Place the shapes on trays and prick with fork.
  • Brush pastry with milk and sprinkle with sugar. Bake for 10 minutes or until pastry is golden and puffed. Set aside to cool for 10 minutes.
  • Whilst the pastry is cooking, whip the cream, vanilla essence, and half the icing sugar together in a bowl until stiff peaks form. Set aside in fridge.
  • Top half of the pastry shapes with spread, then dollop cream. Top with strawberries then sandwich together with the remaining pastry. Dust with icing sugar and enjoy!
